My Project

I teach a 3rd-5th grade class of students with various special needs, including, but not limited to autism, sensory processing disorders, developmental delays, deaf/blindness, and/or behavior disorders. Most of my students are non-verbal and unable to express when they are feeling overwhelmed by their environment. They crave sensory input and need a safe way to meet their challenging sensory needs.

A sensory crash pad will help calm their central nervous systems, reduce anxiety, and improve their focus in the classroom, making it easier for them to learn.

The crash pad can also be used to develop and improve fine and gross motor skills, as well as coordination. Crash pads provide deep pressure which can be highly beneficial for muscle tone, balance, and core strength. Crash pads also provide vestibular input and aid in tactile input. Lastly, crash pads offer hours of fun by providing a safe place to jump, fall, roll, and tumble around.

I would love to receive a sensory crash pad, along with a cover, for my very special students this school year. Having a safe space in our classroom to calm down when experiencing sensory overload would be extremely beneficial for them academically, mentally, and physically.
