Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

CE is a Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade school located in southeastern Davidson County. CE is a part of Metro Nashville Public Schools. Ninety-one percent (91%) of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The student population of CE represents approximately 17 different nationalities. Three-Quarters of our students are in a racial minority with the greatest population of students identifying as Hispanic (55%). It is our goal that through code we might give these students hope for a future they never knew existed.

My Project

This past year we began a K-4 coding class using the program Scratch along with other block based programming tools. Through the year students learned the basics of coding and created their own programs on computers and iPads. However, to give our students a deeper understanding of code and continue to challenge them, we need to take our curriculum to the next level.

The donation of these Ozobots will allow students to see that coding isn't just on computer screen, Ozobots will allow the skill our students already have with block programming to be extended into real life!

Without this class, many of our students would never be introduced to coding or technology careers. Through code and these Ozobots we hope to introduce these students to a world they may have never known and help them create a world we can only imagine.
