A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The beginning of the year is so important, especially kindergarten! Children need a support foundation in order for them to rocket through the year. They can "zoom" with engaging and hands-on activities.
The engaged student is learning.
Our school is in a very transient area.
Most years it can be like a revolving door. The children come with a desire to learn, but all to often, there is a lack of skill. Most do not have any pre-kindergarten exposure. There are many developmental levels. These are very bright children that need to be turned on to learning, but because there are so many levels there is a need for a diversified instruction. A few come with reading skills, while others cannot recognize their name, or may not know the name of colors. The amazing thing is that we meet all state expectations!
My Project
I would be excited about the Circle Time Center to begin the year. It will hit on a color, a number, a shape, a letter, and the date. I can see how many other skills will be substituted. With our children presenting themselves on so many levels, there is a need for differentiated learning. I can be working with an individual or small group. Others can be working with the letter/sound activities, getting them ready for "their" next level. Letter identification is a major focus as we begin the year. The activities chosen, can help each child meet their individual needs.
The project consist of items that children can engage with, independently, working in a small group or by themself, while freeing me to work with the children who have skills to develop.
