My Students

We are kindergarten classrooms of diverse and curious learners. Our students come from varied backgrounds; for many, this is their first school experience. We are a lab school for the local university and are hosts to many student teachers who bring fun, learning, and innovation to our classrooms.

Many of our students' first language is not English, and many come to us from disadvantaged backgrounds without many learning experiences to draw upon, but the one thing they all have is the desire to learn.

My Project

We have been teaching using the Reader's Workshop program for the past 6 years. Our students learn to love reading both in whole group activities and independently. Student favorites presented in a Big Book format help us to engage them further with big colorful illustrations and text that can be tracked with a pointer more easily than in a regular-sized​ book.

Students love to feel successful while reading, books selected for them at their levels will help them to achieve this important milestone!

Providing students many ways to access reading will help us reach many kinds of readers in many different ways, big books, leveled readers and books in a listening station will help us to do just that.
