Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very curious learners in this ever-growing world of technology we live in. Our school is a Title I school meaning our school population has high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families.

This year, I am teaching STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) to students in kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade.

These students are curious learners and are ready to take on STEAM challenges in the classroom. Being in a Title I school area, these students are not exposed to as much technology or resources as other students in parts of the world or even our city may be.

With so many opportunities at our fingertips, these students deserve to be given the chance to explore STEAM concepts in a more concrete, hands-on way to deepen their understanding and foster their desire to learn.

My Project

This project is to bring computer science into my classroom of students aging from 5 to 10 years old. Computer science is an essential skill to be introduced to at a young age to encourage these students to learn about this field. These students in a Title I school do not have access to many professionals in the computer science world and would benefit greatly from learning new skills they could possibly continue to use in their future. When introducing coding to elementary students, I would love to use actual robots they can see in real life follow the codes and programs they create on their own.
