My Students

Music is so powerful! It has the ability to connect all different areas of education, while also providing its own meaningful learning experiences. I strive every day to show this to my students in as many ways as possible.

I'm blessed to teach around 700 students on a weekly basis.

They come from several of our small communities in the area. Our motto is "joined as one, we get the job done." As teachers, we know that we need to work together to bring the best to our students. Why shouldn't music help in other areas of their learning? Why can't science or math help us learn music? Where does it say that technology is only in the regular classroom? I've only been teaching for a few years, but I know I still have so much to learn about teaching music and bringing together our district goals. This is where I want to grow professionally as a teacher.

My Project

Our district is focusing heavily on reading, writing and technology skills. I am requesting various music history books and resources, as well as a musical technology book and iPad mini so I can expand my subject matter knowledge. The materials will help me take the next step to becoming more knowledgeable about common core as well and how I can reinforce these ideas musically in my classroom. Also, our district is working on technology skills as teachers and students. Utilizing the iPad and digging into its musical uses will allow me to become better equipped and knowledgeable about music technology. The interdisciplinary workshop will give me the opportunity to lesson plan with teachers of other content areas in a cultural setting. Through this professional development, I will become a better collaborative teacher. Also, I will be able to put my writing and reading development into practice for others to review, before improving and bringing a better educational experience to my students.

The workshop and materials I'm requesting will help me in my professional development goals of becoming a stronger collaborative teacher.

In turn, I will take these new and improved skills to my classroom and help my students grow. Please help me in my journey of demonstrating that music is all encompassing. You will bring a smile to my face, as well as my student's faces!
