My Project

For many of my students, kindergarten is their first experience in a school setting. They begin the year thinking we will spend the day playing together, and I want my classroom to feel like that as much as possible. My students love to play, create, and learn new things - like how to read and write!

My students need journals specifically for younger students that have dotted handwriting lines with a blank space to draw a picture above them.

Drawing is such an important part early-writing development. Students will also use colorful paper to create their own books. I'll model how to do this and we'll work together to build their writing skills so that they can do this independently by the end of the school year. Every student will create a Book Box using sturdy plastic containers and fun stickers and markers. Students will take their Book Boxes home this fall so they have somewhere to store their paper books as they come home throughout the year. Having a central place to store things will encourage students to reread books and practice their literacy skills at home.
