Reading & Writing Activities!

Help me give my students new reading & writing materials. I am wanting to give my students access to decodable books. I also want to provide new activities to practice phonics, phonemic awareness, and writing skills.

My Students

My students are all unique! They have disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, William's Syndrome, and DiGeorge Syndrome. Of my ten students, seven of them are academically below grade level, six of them need support in order to use the restroom (including three in diapers), and two have severe behaviors that impede learning. We are always looking for new ways to motivate students in order for them to acquire new academic, functional, and behavioral skills.

My Project

I have been learning so much about reading and writing instruction through the LETRS program! I would love to get new materials in order to implement the strategies I am learning during my own professional development.

My students need access to decodable books.

Currently we are using the stories in their student workbooks, but providing decodable books that they can read with 1:1 teacher support would be so beneficial to my students!

We will use the sandpaper cards, sand writing station, and other tracing activities to teach students to write their alphabet.

Words Their Way books will be used to provide students with hands on sorts. Mirrors will be used to work on speech sounds. We will use the magnetic whiteboards, letters, and circles to complete teacher-directed phonics and phonemic awareness activities, such as "pushing up" sounds and syllables or doing alphabet word chaining activities.

I am excited to give my students access to meaningful activities in order to improve their reading and writing abilities!
