My Students

Our elementary school is a diverse school in an urban community that serves students from many backgrounds. Each child brings with him or her unique strengths and needs. They are inquisitive and enthusiastic, and come to school ready to learn every day!

Fourth grade is a key year in students' literacy learning.

During this time, students have a strong focus on "reading to learn." More books become accessible to fluent readers, increasing confidence in one's writing helps improve the communication of ideas, and students blossom as literacy learners.

My Project

I am requesting the Lucy Calkins Units of Study for reading. These units are grounded in research-based practices and are standards-aligned to help students be successful in their learning. I will use these units to create lessons for my students to help push their thinking about what they read.

These units are designed to inspire children to be lifelong readers.

Rather than focusing on textbooks, the lessons revolve around real, engaging books that inspire children to read more and across a range of genres. We will integrate these units with writing to create authentic, cross-curricular texts.

Your donation will help provide engaging, meaningful instruction to my eager readers. Thank you for all you do for children!
