Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are the best of the best. They are respectful, smart, hardworking, kind, and eager to learn more about this world. Though I have over 400 books in my current classroom library, the majority of them were written before 2000 and don’t represent different cultures. We have a library on-campus, but we do not have a librarian and because of this, our current book selection doesn’t seem to get updated frequently. Additionally, this means we don’t have someone on-campus who is able to help students find books to read for enjoyment. I have been rotating the 20-30 books I have that were written after 2015 on a display shelf and my students are begging for more. I honestly wish I could give each of these kids a gift card to a local bookstore, where they could purchase any and every single book that they could possibly dream of wanting. Unfortunately, I can’t. The next best thing, in my opinion, is to stock my shelves with books that they can borrow. Many of my students live in a world that is unpredictable, not only in regards to politics and national crime, but also in regards to not knowing if they will have food on the table each night. Books are an escape for them. Books give them a true picture of what the world can look like. Books give them a world that they can escape to, when times are tough. Through your generous donations, I will continue to stock my classroom library with books that include stories of hope and overcoming obstacles, and that have characters that look like my own students. You will help me give these students a safe place to escape the unpredictability of this world.
