My Students

As a teacher in a Title I school district, my students are faced with challenges in their everyday lives. I have noticed that coming to school for some of my students has provided them a sense of belonging and they receive the attention they need.

My students are caring, thoughtful students that provide one another the encouragement and support we sometimes need.

My students enjoy seeing one another succeed. Their love for reading is heartwarming and their drive to learn makes my job that much more rewarding.

Based on some of my students socioeconomic status, it is hard for them to always have the resources they need to learn at their best ability. I sometimes wish there was more I could do for my students, but I only have so much control on how I can impact their lives. I am hoping to have an impact on my students, that will help my special education students succeed just as well as their general education peers.

My Project

Within an ICT classroom, my students greatly vary in reading abilities. The materials that I would like for my classroom will level the playing field for my special education students.

The audiobooks and tablets will help my students better understand grade level text, help them with the pronunciation of content specific vocabulary and build confidence to add to class discussions.

With the hopes of this project being funded, I would also contribute to the project with a membership to barnes and nobles to purchase audible books. In addition to the reading purposes, I would like to also use the tablets as a writer for my students. Some of my special education students are not able to effectively get their thoughts down on paper, even when they know what they want to say. Having the tablet as a dictation tool for them, I feel my students will become more successful in their everyday learning.
