This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in a low social-economic area. My students are curious, smart, and funny, but they have not had many opportunities in their lives. One of the things they do not have much exposure to at home is books, magazines, and newspapers. They deserve to become great readers and writers with exposure to great literature and current events written at levels they can understand. I believe I can get my students excited about reading and writing with some help from donors like you.

My Project

My project includes magazines in both English and Spanish. My students are learning in two languages and we need magazines in order to read about current events and practice reading strategies.

With these magazines, I can teach my students whole group using the articles inside.

While teaching whole group, each of my students can have their own copy of the articles we are reading.

I can also use the magazines and the resources that come along with them for reading stations. I am always looking for resources that I can add to reading and writing workshop. Being able to provide these without having to pay for it myself, will really help.

With these magazines, I can get my students interested in issues that are in the news. They are very curious and smart students, just not able to have the experiences other students have. With these materials, I can encourage them to share their opinions and discuss issues they hear about in the news.
