My Students

As you look at my energetic eager learners you may think we all look the same. Yet, my classroom is very diverse with many different backgrounds. It is very hard to reach all heritages in our culture. This technology may help unite literacy.

I teach a wonderful diverse group of 2nd grade students in an urban community.

Many students speak other languages at home and at school they speak English. This means while reading at home they will not have the same support. The students strive to move up benchmark levels to become proficient for their grade level. Many struggle when attempting new genres. My students are brave and want to please you while at the same time feel proud of themselves.

My Project

Having and using visuals is an important way for students to learn. Picture clues allows the students to use helpful strategies on their own and figure out new vocabulary. The two Nooks' built in dictionary will be great for boosting students vocabulary. They will be able to access the Internet right on the Nook and do web searches for unfamiliar concepts within the book. Many authors include this so the students will understand the authors purpose and build their comprehension and the theme of the story. Reading all types of genres can be difficult at times when the text, print or levels change. Having technology that allows children to see color pictures will make the children yearn to read. This will bring excitement with literacy!

My students need to experience using the two Nook Color eReaders first hand during literacy.
