My Students
My students are amazing individuals from many backgrounds and different familial circumstances. They all have one thing in common- their love of learning and wanting to challenge themselves. I teach in my hometown of East New York, Brooklyn and am proud to serve the students of my community. Our school is a first year STEM middle school focused on developing the scientific and mathematical skills of our students in order to equip them for a STEM centered world!
My Project
Reading these stories is important for the development of students literary canon. A canon that is true to who THEY are and where they come from. We will read these stories as a collective community that helps students make sense of this new literary world.
With the voices of Black authors, we will be able to give our students more choices for engagement, while educating them on authors who look like them.
It is extremely important they have stories they can identify with.
We also want to be sure to have our students immersed in rich stories and lessons that give them a sense of pride and power!
More than half of students from low‑income households
