I am a first grade teacher. I am dual certified in both elementary and special education. I have taught for a total of 17 years in Florida and 4 years in the state of New York.
A lot of my students have undiagnosed learning disabilities which include severely learning disabled as well as those students with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
My students are very eager to learn and have the ability to learn as well. They just need a little more tender loving care and guidance to get them to where they need to be. Despite their challenges and struggles, my students are hard workers and have a tremendous growth mindset that makes them want to continue to learn. This is why they continue to amaze me each and every day.
My Project
The definition of reading can be defined simply as the process that involves recognizing words, leading to the development of comprehension. A struggling reader will shut down, not want to read or do anything possible to get out of having to read. Each child in my classroom has their own unique disability when it comes to learning how to read. I want to make their learning to read more fun, enjoyable, and more meaningful.
These leveled readers will help promote more confident, knowledgeable and fluent readers.
My job as teacher is promote a place where learning can take you places.
