This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

There are so many benefits to using Scholastic Magazines as a supplemental resource for ELLs. TScholastic's engaging content gets students excited about learning and wanting to know more. The vibrant pictures and clear videos provide the necessary background knowledge to be able to participate in grade level classroom discussions and activities. For Spanish speaking students, there are so many resources available in their home language. This minimizes the language barrier and allows ELLs to focus on skill development and empowers them to share their knowledge, however they are able to. For students who speak languages other than English and Spanish, it affirms that English isn't the only language and knowing things in a language other than English is valuable and important.

Scholastic News topics are always related to relevant current events and holidays and more often than not, have a connection to the recently adopted, city-wide ELA curriculum, HMH.

The magazines are available digitally at multiple reading levels and digital subscriptions allow students to keep practicing at home.

For teachers, having these magazines as a supplemental resource streamlines planning. No more scouring the internet and book rooms for materials that align with classroom instruction. This gives us back time to work on student grouping, differentiated instruction, parent engagement, and more.
