My Students

My students are from a lower socio-economic area that is 100% free lunch. My class specifically is all English language learners who are making great gains in developing their vocabulary and their reading and writing. They are excited about all our different subjects and love to learn!

I would like to provide my students with class sets of chapter books to read.

My students need to feel like established readers while also working together to find meaning and connection through texts.

My Project

My students need good literature to read together. While children need quality literature to read on their own, they also need to experience the joy of reading the same book together. Reading together gives students a sense of community and closeness. I would like to offer them them class sets of books to read together as well as books that give students good examples of comprehension strategies.

Moreover, reading a book together gives students an even greater love of reading.

Together, students can enjoy different parts of a book, talk and write about them, and encourage each other in their learning. They can learn that reading is not just a solitary experience but a communal one that can give them relationships as well as a great reading experience.
