My Project

I love how real my students are with me and with one another. They ask real questions that often bring about tough conversations. They're extremely curious about the world around them, but our school is predominately made up of low income families and during Covid-19 many students went without access to to updated and relevant book titles while they were at home, and that is why these books are so important!

These new books would allow my students to explore emotions and situations that aren't necessarily a part of their everyday life/reality.

This would further allow them to explore the world around them instead of being limited to their singular experience. This would result in social-emotional learning, perspective taking, and it would improve their reading skills, which were negatively impacted during the pandemic. If there's one thing I've learned as a teacher, it's that students are more willing to read and actually get something out of what they're reading when the books they're reading are relevant, exciting, and new, which is exactly the type of books I've tried to choose.
