My Students

I am gaining a new experience this year through having the opportunity to teach kindergarten. The kids I have the pleasure to work with have already begun a love for reading.

We entered into the world of non-fiction texts and it is truly a joy to see their faces each time they discover even the littlest bit of new information about our huge world.

I have been teaching for a little while now, and believe that these students are without a doubt, the most eager to learn that I've ever come across. During our reading block, I hear a continual abundance of phrases like "wow, that's so cool!" "I had no idea...!" and "Mrs. Biggart come look what I found!" They thrive on any new piece of information they can get their hands on and non-fiction reading has become their new favorite past time.

My Project

My kindergarten students are entering the world of non-fiction reading and are LOVING IT! They are soaking in information faster than I can provide it, and while that is amazing, it is also pushing me to give them more and more books!

Non-fiction reading is the way of our world, and a skill that all students will need in order to be life long learners!

While my students have been using the pictures of higher level books to help them learn information about the world, it is my hope to provide them with non-fiction books that they can read!

My students have even mentioned to our school librarian that they are doing a non-fiction unit. She has done her best to find books at their level, but the reality is that non-fiction texts at levels A-F are very hard to come by. Most of them have to be purchased from special teaching websites. That's where you all come in!! The items in my cart have been hand selected as perfect, low level non-fiction reading texts. The non-fiction packs are a great way to get multiple copies of books in their hands quickly, and books about our community helpers align perfectly with our social studies, community helpers unit!
