My Students

During my Literacy Blocks students work in learning stations to practice skills being taught. One station is Read to self. My students have the opportunity to read independently. They are in need of books on their level to practice their reading skills.

My students are from a high poverty area.

The average household income is around $10,000. Many of my students don't get academic support from their parent or care giver. My students love to learn and get excited about new units of study. They love to read by themselves, with a partner and with me. Education is their opportunity to for a productive and successful future.

My Project

My students love to read daily. They need to be able to practice the skills being taught. These multileveled nonfiction books will allow my students to practice their reading, comprehension and fluency skills using books on their independent level. My students get excited about my science and social studies unit so the nonfiction books will also help build background knowledge in those areas of achievement as well. My student will be able to find a quiet place in the room to read these books daily.

The students in my Literacy Block are 1 to 2 years below grade level.

These books will help to encourage and motivate them to read more. Reading is an essential daily life skill and it's necessary for my students to learn and practice their reading skills. Reading is the pathway for my students to be successful life-long learners and community members.
