My Students

"This is actually interesting!" In the midst of conflicts my students encounter outside of school life, it is easy to lose focus and difficulties may be faced when engaging oneself in learning. Through it all, my students come to school everyday wanting to learn, wanting to be accepted, and wanting to be loved.

My co-teacher and I have a great opportunity to loop with our students this year!

We are super excited to continue this journey with them. We hope to provide a safe and comfortable environment for them to be able to express themselves in the midst of other conflicts they may encounter in the world. In order to do this, we want to ask for all the support we can get! 22 of our 25 students receive ESL services, and 9 students receive other services. We have established a community where we help each other by translating, breaking down a task, or lending a helping hand. We hope to continue another year full of love, acceptance, and of course, fun!

My Project

These books will be great resources for our non-fiction unit on natural disasters! Our students are visual learners, and need all the support to learn about a topic. They will be able to use these books to conduct research, carry out conversations about issues in the world, and have a clear picture in their minds by using illustrations and other text features that articles don't include.

In the past, I have used articles to teach students about natural disasters; however, it was difficult for students to have book club conversations without the most important tool: books!

My co-teacher and I hope these books will engage our students to have richer and more meaningful conversations!
