Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first year librarian on a campus where the majority of the students come from low-income families. Our students include Non-Leps (Limited English Proficiency), Bilinguals, Spanish Speakers, and some with learning disabilities, ADD, and ADHD. They live in the poorest area of their city, in one of the poorest cities in the United States. Our campus is literally at the south tip of Texas, right next to the border wall. My students face many challenges in and out of the classroom, yet they are curious and always willing to learn. They need nurturing and motivation, as well as a positive environment where they will feel excited to learn and have fun while doing so.

My Project

The library is the heart of our school. Students love coming and exploring their imagination through our diverse book collection. Unfortunately, most students are still at home working through distance learning, and for their safety, they’re unable to check-out our books. Every day, students tell me how much they miss the library.

With these new books, students will be able to continue to enhance their reading and comprehension at home.

All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
