Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a community school, that is more like a large family than a school. Although many of the children come from low-income families, everyone works together to help the children succeed and have fun while learning. The children I teach are first graders who come to school with great enthusiasm for learning. That enthusiasm is what makes my day go by quickly. That joy and love for learning is what makes any day a sunny day at school.

Each child strives to do his or her best while encouraging his or her classmate to do the same.

My Project

Reading independently in first grade is a big step. However, our classroom library is a bit out of date and not leveled correctly to meet each child's need. The children borrow books to take home and read in class. Having a leveled library with extra titles will allow them to feel more successful as some children enjoy reading with a buddy or like to create their own literature circle to discuss what they have read.

Children find joy in reading and with a greater selection of books, their reading fluency and stamina will increase, their love for reading will grow, and their imagination will soar.
