“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr. Seuss I am a second grade teacher in a high poverty area. Our school works hard to help develop world class learners but our resources are limited.
Our school serves children who are eager to learn but don't always have the resources they need to succeed.
They often come from homes that have many financial strains and are not able to provide the children with the books and supplies they need. Many of the books that are in the classroom have seen better days. Most of the books have been handed down for many years and are outdated, torn, missing pages, and not on their reading level.
The books and weekly readers that I have requested will give the students reading material that fits their literacy needs. The reading levels range from PreK to 3rd grade which will fit the dynamics of classroom readers. The weekly readers will provide students with a chance to read current topics as well as complete activities to increase their reading comprehension. The weekly readers will provide students with the opportunity to complete reading assignments in class and then take home to have as reading material. The books I have requested are books that can be read for the Accelerated Reader program. Accelerated Reader is an online program in which the students read the books and take comprehension tests for points. The students then can use the points for various prizes.
