Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you every had a thirst for water but couldn't get anything to drink? My students are longing for the skills to read.

My students are located in a small rural area, single parent homes, substance abuse parents, abused, and sharing rooms with five siblings.

The school is very warming to these students, the culture is family oriented. They are given free breakfast and lunch since this may be the only meal they will receive until the next day. They are well mannered children, you can't help but love them, very humble and thirsty to read a book. Since the students I teach has cognitive and processing problems it takes more direct instruction for them to learn. They would have to hear and see a strategy 100 times before they learn it, unlike the students in the general education room who can hear it one time and apply the skills they have learned to the classroom work and real life.

My Project

My students need more hands on materials, computers for the students who are visual learners, Smart Board so they can hear the sounds to the letter, and able to see the rest of the world in the classroom, since they may not get a chance to travel. The Smart Board will enable them to see a whale jump out of water, a seal slide down the slide for a fish. Reading is the foundation they need to succeed not only in Language Arts, but in Mathematics. If they can't read then they can't answer a word problem. We need a variety of resources to reach these children.

If we do not have a source of water to drink, we will eventually die.

If these students don't learn to read, they will eventually die from lack of income since they are unable to attain a job if they can't read. I always tell my students you learn to read so you can read to learn. My students need to learn regardless of their disability. Their disability range from autism, specific learning disabilities, other health impairments, and limited intelligence disability formally known as MR.
