My Students

I teach a group of students with special needs ranging in grades from 3rd-5th grade. They work with me for both reading and math. My students' disabilities range from Autism to ADHD and many others in between. These students learn in different ways and paper/pencil tasks do not always motivate them. We do a lot of hands-on, interactive learning where the students become a part of what they are learning about in order to fully understand the concepts and meet all of their IEP goals.

My Project

This coming year, I will be teaching a group of students with special needs in grades 3-5. I have some math materials for the older elementary grades, but find I am lacking reading and language arts materials for the older elementary grades. In order to be fully prepared for my students, I am requesting various different reading materials I can use with them; both in a small group pull-out setting and within their general education classroom.

The materials I am requesting, will help me be able to reach all of my students' diverse needs, while also helping me to hit upon all of their goals that are a part of their Individualized Education Plans.

The bingo games will allow me to practice reading comprehension strategies with my students in a fun game based way that will allow them to practice some harder skills while still having a lot of fun. The write and wipe organizers will help us organize our thoughts as they are connected to all of the different skills (especially reading comprehension) that we will be learning about. The finding evidence kit and the journals will be a great tool for my students to have to help them learn these more complex skills in a fun hands-on way. All of these materials will help my students reach their personal and academic goals in numerous different ways!
