My Students

Energetic. Attentive. Curious. Collaborative. Engaged. Loving. Leaders. My students encompass all of these traits. They are energetic and engaged and have a true love of learning. My students come from diverse backgrounds and have unique needs. Our neighborhood school provides services to students from a variety of socioeconomic homes, different cultures, and a variety of learning needs. My school is located in the historic Houston Heights neighborhood and we stand as a beacon of love and safety for our students. I want to provide amazing resources to my students to enhance the virtual instruction ahead. My students' needs vary and I want to make sure that all instruction and resources are differentiated to best meet their needs and continue to push them further as learners.

My Project

Books provide students with many opportunities to experience rich cultural stories, to learn from other perspectives, and add to their love for learning. The materials in this project help with both online learning and in-class instruction. Scholastic Storyworks will allow my students and I to have access to short texts of multiple genres to support whole group and small group lessons. The resource not only provides authentic, engaging texts, but also lessons and activities that are differentiated for my learners. In addition to the paper form, Storyworks is available online so I will be able to use these to enhance our online learning.

The abundance of diverse and inclusive texts will add to our learning experiences in many meaningful ways.

Not only will my students be exposed to stories of cultures and experiences that are different from their own, but they will also be engaging in discussions and lessons that will allow them to stretch their thinking and have an appreciation for the differences that make up our society. These books will focus on identity and teach students to connect to others who are not like them in many ways, but also give them history and stories to learn from to respect other cultures and experiences.
