My school is one of the most diverse campuses in the area. In a single classroom I might have a student with a parent who works at Apple, a student who has only been in the country a short while, a student who has recently become homeless, or a student that has two parents that work two to three jobs just to keep food on the table. What I love the most about these students is how they are so accepting and open with one another despite their differences. About a week ago, we got a new student with just 6 weeks left in the school year. She is fairly quiet and keeps to herself. One of my super social kids that I’ve had all year took it upon herself to ask this student to be her partner. It was such a sweet, genuine moment that reminded why I love coming to work.
My Project
Being a high school student today comes with a lot of stress, especially when you need a safe place to get your work done. Many of my students don’t have a quiet, place at home where they feel comfortable to get their work done. So they come to my room before school, during lunch, during study hall, and after school. I’d like to create a nice space in the classroom where they can putting aside the drama for a minute and just focus on the subject matter. I also see this chair being a huge benefit when it comes to having alternative seating options for class time. All of our furniture in the classroom has been around for a very long time. It’d also be so nice for the kids to get something new, just for them.
