My Project

At my school, we're growing readers through 10 mins of daily choice reading. However, right now those choices do not include enough representation of the contributions, culture, myths, and stories of Native Americans. That's why we need your help to buy 15 new texts such as The Mishomis Book: The Voice of the Ojibway and The Four Hills of Life: Ojibwe Wisdom that bring Native voices into our classrooms.

Your donation to this project will buy books showcasing the beauty, strength, and resilience of Native Americans to our students.

Students yearn to see themselves in books, and the 5% of our students that identify as Native currently don't have that chance. Plus, our non-Native students deserve to read about indigenous brilliance, too!

You can help bring a range of Native perspectives to our students: from an illustrated encyclopedia of American Indian history and culture to contemporary coming of age stories, fantasy, elder storytelling, and mythology.

Your donation will fund 3 copies of each text, so that our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English classrooms can each offer these texts for choice reading time to every middle school student in our school.
