Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every day we try to use real-world examples in my classroom. In the age of the common core, students are expected to delve deeper into mathematical concepts by having the proper tools and resources to enhance their learning.

My students are diverse problem solvers, motivated critical thinkers, and future data scientists in a STEM magnet program in Los Angeles, CA.

The goal of our STEM magnet program is to best prepare our students for post-secondary opportunities in universities, technical schools, and in the 21st-century workplace.

My Project

I wish to use Michael Crichton's book, Jurassic Park, in my Engineering Design and Development class so that students can explore ethical dilemmas that are brought about by scientific progress.

These books will enhance student learning and engagement because they will get to read a classic story from pop culture in a new light.

A discussion of Jurassic Park will serve as a springboard to discuss the effect scientific progress has on society. My students already get a lot of hands-on experience with coding and solving problems. By reading Jurassic Park, they will explore an ethical dilemma scientists face: just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
