Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What makes my students special, is that they are curious, generous, and they are MINE! They are from a low socioeconomic background and English Language Learners. Many of my students do not have access to books at their reading level, so they are greatly appreciative of what we provide at school. They are willing to work hard to make their lives better. My students are kind and sweet, they deserve an environment where they can feel that they are important.

Our school serves students in grades K-5 and provides rigorous academics and a safe learning environment.

I would love to have some help in making our classroom the environment my students need and deserve.

My Project

We use the little area rug every day, however, there is not enough space for everyone. Our class sits together to work on daily activities in math and reading. Students come to the rug with whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies for math. They also love to sit on the rug to read. This new rug will give them a cozy, clean and comfortable place to read. They are falling in love with reading. I would love for them to have the environment that enhances and encourages them.

The time we spend on the rug allows me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide them with immediate feedback.

They like to sit on the rug to show and share their work. This builds great confidence in them, which makes them work harder. They enjoy the time on the rug. It's a time of new learning, sharing and reading for fun.
