My Students

My students range from ninth through twelfth grade. They are witty, curious, fun, full of youth and struggle in school. Forty-two percent of my students are on the free or reduced price lunch program.

Getting students to change the way the feel about reading is my joy, my passion, my challenge.

I was just like them when I was in high school, I wasn't a reader. Then I had children and lived in a foreign country and didn't speak the language. I started to read to my young son. I became a reader!

Finding books for high school students that will engage them, pull them into a world in which everything else slips away, makes them ponder and compare their life to those in a book.. this is my hope.

That is why I need your help. I need books, all different types of books, graphic novels, stories that relate to everyday lives, words that will make them laugh, cry and wonder. I need to make reading something that students want to do. Reading is a life long skill and should be joyful. Please help me find books that they will want to read.

My Project

Reading is a life skill you use daily. When you hate to read, it is hard to improve reading abilities.

I want to see books in their hands and watch their faces light up because they are engaged in the story.

I want them to learn to love reading like I do. Graphic novels are a great tool that engages students to read even when reading is a challenge.

My students asked for graphic novels, and you can make this happen. Help build a classroom library where there are books for every interest.
