Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school is an elementary school ranging from 3K-5th grade, located in Washington Heights. The students come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and many of the students are English Language Learners. This makes my work that much more exciting and meaningful! My students are wonderful young scholars who have bright and curious minds and try their hardest to express and communicate their ideas with teachers, peers, and their families.

As a speech-language pathologist, it is my honor to help students communicate to the best of their ability and give them the strategies necessary to access language in texts.

Providing them with fun engaging books and Scholastic magazines will expose them to engaging and relevant grade-level texts that are differentiated to their needs, and that also contain vocabulary they can use across all contexts. From what I have seen, my students love reading and listening to fun books and Scholastic magazines.

I look forward to providing them with reading materials they are excited about to help further advance and support their academic needs!
