My Students

Help! My students need new and current books. Books capture imaginations and get the learning started. It is imperative that each student has books that he or she can explore. As each year goes by books get worn and out dated.

My students come from a very deprived area.

Families are struggling to just get by. Our school district has endured more and more cuts each year. We are not getting any type of funding for supplies. My students deserve to have adequate supplies to learn. My students work hard against all odds to succeed and prepare for further education. I want to ensure that I can give them the best chance possible. I feel with proper supplies it will be a great start to a great year.

My Project

Receiving these books would be a wonderful blessing for my students for many reasons. First, I feel that having current books that relate to my students will ensure that they become motivated to read. Currently I do not have 1 set of books where I have a copy for each student. Just the fact that they wouldn't have to share books would make them feel important and special. These books would lead into so many possibilities for learning experiences. We would develop literature circles and use them in reader's workshop. The book Blubber by Judy Bloom deals with the topic of bullying which I feel is an important topic within today's society and especially where my students come from. A class set of Blubber and The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg would mean so much to my students this year and also to my students in the future as well.

We really need these books. I want my students to develop a love for reading and that first starts with a book. These books are new and relevant to the curriculum but, also to my students' interests. Learning all starts with a great book.
