Reading Is Magnetic

My students need a magnetic whiteboard easel to use during direct instruction and independent learning times. They also need a few learning center tools, like stamps, to use too.

My Students

Learning by doing is a great way to learn. This is challenging when you are at a new school that is limited in resources. An easel is essential in a kindergarten classroom to enhance tactile literacy learning.

My students attend a k-12 college preparatory, classical education charter school.

The elementary school is entering the second year of existence, which is why we are in need of learning tools. The students work harder than any other kindergartners I know. They LOVE learning how to read, write, and discover many new things.

My Project

Being a new school, we have limited resources for which to work with. This easel and learning centers will enhance my teaching and student learning tremendously! The easel will be used daily for a variety of uses. I will use it to write up short stories and poems for use during choral reading activities. Using the easel will allow for the students to have the words at their height level, so they can come up and track the words with a pointer, circle high frequency words, find rhyming words, and much more. We will use it to practice handwriting, write class stories and use it to hold out big books. The magnetic part of the easel will give the students a place to use our magnetic letters to complete word building activities. We will use our word cards and can complete word sorts, as well as, completing sentence building activities. The palettes and alphabet stamps will provide additional center opportunities to support the learning that was done with the easel

This project will provide my students with an additional tactile way to learn.

Writing on paper is great, but the hands-on stimulus provided will help meet their various learning styles. Skills that can be enforced using the easel include sight word and vocabulary, fluency and word building. The easel will be a tool that I use to enhance my instruction multiple times a day for direct instruction purposes, small group, as well as a place for the students to complete center activities
