Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A day in the life of my ICT students involves them teaching each other and working together. I, as their teacher, want to do my very best to make their year in second grade their most successful yet.

My students are second graders living in the projects of New York City.

They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and mostly Spanish speaking or bilingual homes. They come to school eager to learn and explore new things. They love experiencing new texts and authors during interactive read-alouds, but our supply of books just isn't what it should be to capture their interests and keep the engaged.

My school is a collaborative environment and teachers always go out of their way to help each other out and do what's best for our students. My students love to read! They are looking for high interest engaging books to have in our classroom for our interactive read aloud time.

My Project

Do you remember when your teacher read an engaging book aloud to the class that sparked a love of literacy? Imagine if this was the norm rather than the exception every day.

One of the cornerstones of elementary education is having the chance to read aloud to students in an interactive and engaging manner.

These picture books will provide my students with quality award-winning texts and illustrations to help them explore and learn about the craft of reading and writing. Once I use these during a read aloud, they will become a hot commodity in our classroom. Students love reading books that the teacher has already read aloud. This helps students monitor their fluency and accuracy while they are reading.
