This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In a world where technology is so appealing and available, kids don't enjoy reading the way we used to in the past. In the past, Independent reading was a time where we didn't have to worry about being right or wrong, we just allowed ourselves to escape to another world. For many students reading just isn't fun anymore.

My students love to read.

Part of what can make reading appealing is making reading an experience. With colorful stools and a rocking chair coupled with fun and interesting books reading can be an adventure, not just something they feel forced to do. My students are emergent readers and as a result they are hungry for knowledge. Having an area that is appealing to them will help to build on the motivation that they have. They will be excited to read independently and reading will become an adventure for them. Reading is the foundation of all successful careers. How can you navigate life without having the basic fundamental skill of reading? While they are young, the children will become better readers by reading. Reading MUST be appealing to them.
