My Students

I am an intervention teacher who teaches 36 sweet, enthusiastic students in the area of reading. My students are kindergartners through third graders, and they represent a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The excitement that lights my students’ faces when they read a new word or are able to effectively utilize a reading strategy is a constant inspiration for my teaching.

My students enjoy engaging, interactive experiences, and my goal is to build their confidence and make reading enjoyable, instead of frustrating for them.

My Project

In our classroom, we practice growth mindset, where the students understand that they can get smarter and improve skills by practicing and never giving up. This project provides posters to hang in the classroom to remind the students the power of their attitude. There are also several reading games and puzzles that they will play independently and in our small groups.

Imagine hopping on dinosaur footprints while reading words, swatting sight words with fly swatters, going on a word safari to practice decoding, and building words with magnet letters instead of simply practicing flashcards.

These engaging activities build my students' reading skills and word knowledge, and often, they don't even realize that they're learning while having so much fun. This project will provide these learning opportunities for my students.
