Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school, for a district that strives to help kids succeed! Many of my students come from poverty level conditions and have emotional or physical conditions that get in the way of their learning. ADD and learning disabilities provide challenges for our students who already are struggling. Trying to teach children who need additional support requires me, as their teacher, to ask for help. Sometimes children in this type of socioeconomic status don’t have high expectations in regards to school. This is for them. These kids need to know there are people who care for their education, and I am their biggest cheerleader. They can have a different ending to their story.

My Project

Many of my students don't have the access to current news at their level. They hear about things going on around them and don't know what to think. Since many of my students are not able to buy books that appeal to their interests, they think that reading is more of a chore than fun.

The biggest change I want to make in my students life, is for them to realize that reading is fun!

I want them to learn to love reading and in the past I have been successful with the help of these amazing magazines. Scholastic News does a fantastic job at attracting their readers and engaging them.

I truly hope that this project becomes funded so that a few of our future leaders discover the magic there is in reading!
