My Students

I have the most amazing class of fifth graders. They are hard workers with a variety of backgrounds. We strive to build our class into a community of caring individuals. We live in a bedroom community to a larger city. We have farms, apartment buildings and single family homes. We are an economically diverse community.

Critical thinking is a goal for our students this year.

Having the opportunity to explore new books will create the thinkers that will grow into adults that will think broadly.

My Project

Struggling readers need to be convinced that reading is fun. In my experience one of the best way to convince readers to read more is to allow them to read on an e-reader.

There is just something about using technology to make something as ordinary as reading become an exciting event.

One of the best benefits is that no one will know what level the reader is reading on. Everyone from advanced to struggling has the same outward appearance. Students who would not risk reading a low level book around their peers are more confident when no one can tell what they are reading. This leads to students building confidence to read more.
