A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Remember getting tucked into bed at night after your parents read you a story? Literacy is an integral part of our society that sometimes gets overlooked. Through the use of books and literacy I can, as a speech-language pathologist, target many goals.
The kids I work with struggle every day to communicate.
They have a range of disorders that vary from mild to profound. It is my goal to create an environment where my kids want to communicate and grow. Through the act of literacy and reading, the kids are learning communication and language while having fun! It is a great way to generalize the students' success into a new environment.
My Project
My students need a collection of story books to enhance language and articulation skills including Where the Wild Things Are, Cat in the Hat, and If You Take A Mouse to School. With each book, my students will be able to focus on a variety of goals and objectives. A simple story book can be transformed into a learning target with a few simple materials. My students will learn articulation, language concepts, fluency, pragmatics, and so much more. These resources will benefit every student, whether disorders are mild or profound. For example, I can target many language concepts through the story "The Cat and the Hat."
I work in a school where the majority of children are on free and reduced price lunch.
Donations will help me better serve my kids. They will experience things and activities that they may not experience elsewhere outside of the classroom. Some students might not have the opportunity to access a wide range of books and other texts. I want to be able to provide that for them.
