My Students

I am an intervention teacher who teaches 36 sweet, enthusiastic students in the area of reading. My students are kindergartners through third graders, and they represent a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The excitement that lights my students’ faces when they read a new word or are able to effectively utilize a reading strategy is a constant inspiration for my teaching.

My students enjoy engaging, interactive experiences, and my goal is to build their confidence and make reading enjoyable. In our classroom, we practice a growth mindset where my students understand that they can get smarter and improve skills by practicing and never giving up.

My Project

This is part two of my "Reading IS Fun" series to spark my students' interest and engage them in a variety of exciting literacy activities. They will play some of the games independently and others in our small groups.

As my students interact and engage in these learning-based games, they will build confidence and strengthen their phonics and decoding skills, all while having fun.

With the match-up phonics games, they will master CVC words, blends, digraphs, and vowel sounds, one phoneme at a time. The word cards help my visual and kinesthetic learners as they pick a card, touch the textured dots while saying each sound, read the full word, and find its matching picture card. The stack and build flipbooks and the roll and read phonics games are fast-paced activities that will surely engage my students. The beginning sounds instant learning center will be a perfect way to strengthen this skill with my youngest learners who are still struggling with this concept.

I can't wait to see how these fun literacy activities can supplement our enriching learning curriculum.
