My Project

I have a very inspirational group of high schoolers. For the first time, when I mentioned that I was planning to figure out how to get them a copy of an easy reader in Spanish for each one of them to read, I heard happy sounds of joy. Usually, teenagers don’t want or are too scared to read a book in their second language. This group of beginners is not typical: they are thriving in their studies. They love creative writing and are ecstatic to receive a new text to read every week.

This project will help solidify their second language acquisition while supporting literacy programs in my school system.

I believe that when a student can decode written language on their own, and discuss their findings in a positive and engaging environment, the entire learning community develops a sense of pride and mutual respect.

I hope each student will be able to have their copy of this easy reader, allowing each one of them to keep the book to be read anywhere, and not only in the classroom.
