This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach kindergarten in a public school located in New York City. I have 25 amazing, motivated students who are always excited about reading books.

My kindergarteners love story time!

They love hearing me read books to them. I am very familiar with "read it again" and I am always happy to comply with this lovely request. But, it can be difficult to accommodate this sweet request because of time constraints. However, with a listening center my little ones will definitely have the opportunity to hear their favorite stories over and over again.

My Project

Having a listening center will give my students the opportunity to follow along in books as they listen to CDs, which will assist with reinforcing and supporting grade level skills such as directionality, sequencing and reading comprehension. They will be able to listen to stories in small groups which will make reading even more fun and enjoyable for them.

Having a listening center, books with CDs and a portable CD player will make my students even more excited about books!

It will reinforce and support concepts of print, and build confidence in reading.
