My school is a public, Title I school in Utah. I am providing reading interventions for our lowest students in each grade (K-5). We have a very diverse group of students. My students are bright, creative leaders who want to be challenged in the classroom. They have high expectations and goals. I am always looking for ways to improve the reading skills of all students. I believe that reading is one of the most important skills students must learn if they are to be successful in school and in life. Students need to work on phonics, phonological awareness and fluency, in addition to vocabulary and comprehension. I am looking to add these tools to my teaching kit. These will allow me to be fast and effective so we don't waste any time.
My Project
With Covid 19 remote learning, I do interventions with many students that are more than two years behind their current grade level. The practice cards will help to build automaticity for my students in reading words and fluency.
The easel will be used to let students use magnetic letters and magnetic symbols for activities that are need to build phonological awareness.
It will provide a workspace for students that they are able to reach and practice skills. My intervention program comes with magnetic pieces to teach phonological awareness. Having the easel will allow my students to have more places to practice and for me to teach.
