My Students

Reading is the key to future success! Unfortunately my students are missing the basic foundations of reading and are struggling tremendously.

Our class consists of 7th and 8th grade students in a Special Needs class.

We are located in a public school in a high poverty area and are functioning on a 1st and 2nd grade reading level which is well below their peers. As we all know, our funding has been majorly cut.

My Project

What better way to help students than by giving them the gift to read! This will be a skill that will be with them through live and will help them in every aspect of life. The word identification and spelling kit will assess the students progress in the Wilson Just Words reading program. Due to our economic times, the district was only able to purchase very few kits that need to be shared across a huge district. Our class is still awaiting the opportunity to utilize this kit and valuable time is being wasted. All students must be tested before the program can begin. We are already coming to the end of the first month of school and have lost 20 days of instruction in this program. I don't want to waste anymore time. These children are already below level and we have alot of work to do to catch up. We can't afford to waste another day!
