Reading Intervention With Chapter Books!

Help me give my students the opportunity to read quality chapter books during reading intervention and guided reading.

My Project

Chapter books give students a sense of accomplishment. The students enjoy actually completing a chapter book together. A chapter book can be intimidating because of its word count and lack of pictures. By using a set to read together, students learn that it is possible and enjoyable to read chapter books in class.

Students love feeling like they completed something worthwhile and look forward to reading chapter books again and again.

It is a jumping off point for students to try something new and exciting. Students can see that it is possible taking it one page at a time. Everyone wins!

During our lessons students will talk about literary elements of the book and answer questions about how the characters feel and what might happen next. Through guided reading, the students aren't left to decipher the text alone. They learn to understand how stories about others are similar to their own issues at home and at school. Students will develop a love of literature and in turn, will do better in other subjects by developing better reading skills.
