My Students

We are a Title I school located in the heart of our village. Most of the students come from hard-working immigrant, low-income families. Listening to books read aloud has been the best activity that I have experienced with my students year to year. Since most of the students have not even had access to a library for the last 6 months, it is crucial that they will have access to books in September. I want the books to be something they are able to talk about with their families and get excited about regardless of their socioeconomic status or access.

My Project

Books inspire and help kids make connections!

No matter where we’ll be, in class or online, a great book can help to make that instant connection with a child, which can inspire them to learn and enjoy reading!

Since so much has changed in my own perspective of how I choose books in terms of authors and characters as well as the goal of each book. It is imperative that my classroom library is diverse and reflects the colors and backgrounds of all of my students, their families, and their experiences.
