Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With all the outside world problems our kids face, I would love to show our kids there is another world to disappear into... the world of books. I'll never forget when a teacher in my life tried to explain to me "reading is another world..." I never understood until I realized it myself...

Our kids are the best ones in the world.

They live in high poverty and high crime. They still have so much love to give, and I want them to be able to find that love through stories in books. Some of us don't realize what it means to have a book because we have so many. When these kids have ONE book, they treat it like gold! I love that, we can learn a lot from them actually. I wish they each could have their own book they can call their own.

My Project

I can't say enough words to make anyone realize how a new book would impact our students' lives. They do have books at home, but they are tattered from wear from generations of brothers, sisters, cousins, and neighbors. If they could take a new book home it would be like heaven to them. We, as teachers, show them how fun reading can be and they just want to share the joy they have felt in school! Owning their very own new book would mean the world to them. My true hope is that they pass this awesome feeling on to their children and family. With new books, thousands of opportunities would rise in imagination, creativity and hope. Activities with each new story would grow into a lifelong love of learning. Our students would learn to learn for themselves and pass it on to the next generation.

The impact of these donations would impact this small part of the inner city in Philadelphia.

In this small part of the world, when it seems like nothing is left, many, many children will realize for themselves that reading a book can take you anywhere you want to go in your imagination. Hopefully, in turn, this desire of learning would spread to the reaches of the unknown! Such a huge difference can be made in so many lives by just reading. Help us to help them.
