My Students

My classroom is a melting pot of learners and cultures. Students range from one or two grades above level to three or four grades below level. Lesson plans are scaffold to present the standards in three different ways to a multitude of learners.

Reading is just as important in math class as it is in any other subject students learn.

In a math classes today, the key to solving math problems is to be able to comprehend the word problems. Students need to have strategies to break apart the sentences, pull out the useful information, use key words to help find the right strategy to solve the problem.

My Project

In today's math classroom reading comprehension is just as important as math fluency. With this in mind I would like to create a math library that would not only be a fun resource for my students but a relaxing option after they completed an assignment ahead of time.

Today student's need to comprehend instructions given in textbooks and test and decipher and break apart word problems to solve problems correctly.

Sometimes in math class I find myself teaching grammatical skills to helps students find the best mathematical skill and strategy to solve a problem. With this in mind a classroom library with both pleasurable and resource materials will help students take their learning to the next level.
